Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city, has long been known for its events and festivals. This year, the city excels itself with a diary to make the mouth water! In Spring, the International Science Festival, comes to town with its wealth of innovative and interactive science and technology. During this time, your clients can also enjoy Edinburgh's first official Easter Parade which is set to take place in the heart of the city with around 4000 young entertainers from all over the world. In May, the International Festival of the Sea visits the historic port of Leith in Edinburgh. The regenerated waterfront area pulls together ships, musicians, street performers, storytellers, crafts and artefacts, all with a maritime heritage, to create a real festival atmosphere. The following months see the Scottish International Children's Festival, the Royal Highland Show, the 2nd East Lothian Golf Classic and the Festival of Flight. Of course, July and August bring with them the season for which Edinburgh is infamous, with the six festivals and unrivalled atmosphere. There is nothing quite like a stroll up the Royal Mile in August with street performers and visitors from all around the world to create a vibrant and cosmopolitan feel to the Old Town. There are several additions to our collection of visitor attractions including the opening up of The Real Mary King's Close. A warren of hidden streets lying beneath the City Chambers, groups can witness 17th century life in plague-ridden Edinburgh. The Playfair Project, the name given to the restoration of the Royal Scottish Academy, reaches completion and opens to the public in August. Its inaugural exhibition, 'Monet: The Seine and The Sea - Vétheuil and Normandy, 1878 - 1883' will be unique to Edinburgh. Outdoors, The Adventure Centre at Ratho, to the west of the city, opens in May. The centre will be the Scottish and British base for adventure sports practice and development and will include the National Rock Climbing Centre. | ||
